Among the Emiran Guardians, very few of them are not familiar with the legacies that Midnight and Laura Emira have been forging in the name of the species.  Together, over the course of several years, these two have worked alongside the Vanguard to help ensure the safety for all life in the Milky Way Galaxy and beyond as the journey toward a second Golden Age continues.  Like the rest of their kind, these two made their presence known to humanity a few months before the Collapse.

They lived peaceful lives in their respective homes before tragedy had struck the world as a plague of Darkness almost exterminated all life.  While most of the rapidly dwindling population fled to the Last City, both Midnight and Laura would be traversing from settlement to settlement, defending those who remained alive in their evacuation to the City.  Alas, their lives would be lost within a few weeks after the start of the Collapse.

Centuries passed and life struggled to continue as plans to fight back against the forces that nearly drove Earth to extinction were being formed.  With the Vex having transformed Venus and Mercury, the Fallen ravaging the ruins of Earth’s cities and the Hive conjuring unspeakable horrors on the Moon and elsewhere, it was only a matter of time before the final remnants of life and Light would be snuffed out.

As part of its efforts to try to save these souls one last time, the Traveler’s Ghosts scattered, searching for their assigned Guardians to resurrect them and begin the new battle for survival.  Those who fought bravely in their final moments during the Collapse were rewarded with the Traveler’s power, including immortality.

Midnight and Laura would be among those chosen.  Laura was resurrected in the snow of the far northern part of what was North America.  Midnight would be resurrected near the southern coast of what had been the United States.  Confused and with few memories of the lives they once had, the two set out on their journeys to discover the truth and stop the impending crisis.

Laura endured constant blizzards and the harsh cold as she proceeded south.  She armed herself with what few weapons she could scavenge from lost, destroyed settlements.  Weeks would pass by and the only other life she would see was the Fallen and their Walkers marching through, likely en route to their next site to scavenge for supplies.  She remained in the distance, using the terrible weather conditions to her advantage.  Her keen sense of navigation helped her avoid most conflicts.  When she did have to confront an enemy, she eliminated them with ease thanks to her natural agility and impressive gun skills.  A worn hand cannon, the first weapon she could find after her revival, served her well until she would finally leave the snow-covered wastes.

Three months after her revival, Laura would discover what used to be a former military base.  She investigated this place, discovering that it was once a home for interplanetary fighters.  There was hope that a jumpship could still be found here.  Her Ghost scanned the area and discovered that there was one with a warp drive still available, but there was also a heavy Fallen presence.  The vixen snuck through the base, letting her Ghost keep a constant reminder on the location of this ship.  When she found an enemy, she awaited the right moment before striking them with her knife.  Assassinating targets and hiding them was her primary method of dispatching enemies until she reached the ship.  Once she found the hangar that vehicle was left in, she was greeted by a squad of Fallen, lead by Haviks, their Captain.  She immediately took cover and dispatched the lesser Dregs and Vandals before focusing on her duel with their leader.  The Captain was aggressive, never ceasing with his Shrapnel Launcher and forcing her to keep moving.  After a while, she finally managed to break his shield and deliver a couple of precise shots to his head.  The ether tubes shattered as his life vanished.  She was all that remained after the confrontation.  After investigating the surrounding area as her Ghost ensured that the ship was functional, she was transmatted aboard and took off from the facility.  Her Ghost immediately knew where to go and entered coordinates for the Last City.  Finally, after months of wandering the snow, she would begin to have set path forward.

Midnight was resurrected within the ruins of a large, urban complex.  The area had been completely taken over by the Fallen.  He would discover this within moments of his revival as he was immediately pursued by a patrolling group.  Midnight found safety in the sewers, hiding from these Ether-consuming creatures.  His Ghost assisted him in finding a way out the area.  Remnants of what had to be resistance groups’ hideouts revealed themselves as he explored.  Old, but functioning weapons would help provide him some sort of defense.

There would be a few times were the Fallen would enter the sewers, forcing him to dispatch these foes, but he never was injured and used stealth to his advantage.  When done with these engagements, he would hurry onward, leaving the scene before others arrived.

The moments when he could feel the earth shake as a Walker traversed the surface above always made him froze.  In pure darkness, he remained still, waiting for the shaking to stop.  Only when he felt that he was safe did he proceed ahead.  The vulpine was not going to take any chances.

For an untold amount of time, Midnight and his Ghost navigated these sewers.  His eyes had grown so accustomed to the darkness that he was blinded for an extended period upon finally leaving them.  When he could see again, he found himself about two miles outside the northern edge of the city.  Skiffs flew at low altitude as a Ketch hovered over the entire city.  It was a harrowing sight.  Midnight continued onward, hoping to find more answers.

As he left the area, he would encounter a gang of Fallen with their Pikes.  These vehicles didn’t look particularly impressive, but they would still suffice.  While the Fallen were talking to each other in their language, Midnight took aim and eliminated each one with a few precision shots.  They had no time to react before their lives vanished.  With them gone, he boarded one of the Pikes and escaped the area.  He would always look behind himself, making sure nobody was following him.  From there, he would find a functional jumpship in the coming days, which would be used to get him to the City.

Midnight and Laura would meet each other a short time after their respective arrivals.  Under the Vanguard’s guidance, the two started to work together to understand their new, growing powers as Guardians.  They would both become especially skilled at using arc, solar and void energy, but they ultimately did have a preference.  Midnight, in his discipline, felt himself perfect for the role of a Defender.  Laura found herself becoming comfortable with the idea of the hunt as a Nightstalker.  As they trained, they started to form a bond.  The longer they spent together as a fireteam, the stronger their relationship grew.  There is very little record of Guardians falling in love, but they never hid their true feelings for each other.  Together, they felt like they were unstoppable.  A perfect duo that mastered the Void, they would set off on many missions together.  From that moment onward, they would begin their journey of growth and discovery.

Their efforts would not stop with the defeat of the Vex on Mars.  No, there was still much to be done.  With the information they found in the Ishtar Archives, the two would work with the Vanguard to spearhead the operation into the Vault of Glass.  Joined by four other Guardians that were among the Vanguard’s best, they entered this sacred Vex lair and ultimately eliminated Atheon, Time’s Conflux.  A major Vex threat had been eliminated.

For a brief time, Midnight and Laura would begin to work with scholars to start researching more about themselves and the Emirans in general.  Both shared the goal of discovering the true origin of how the Emirans came to be.  With few leads to go on, this would become their main goal.

However, more situations would arise, diverting their attention away from this goal.  The attempted resurrection of Crota, a Hive god, had to be stopped.  Working with Eris Morn, not only did they stop the resurrection, but they also led the assault into Crota’s throne world and eliminated him with a blade.  There was much to learn about the Hive following this and both foxes took some time to see if more could be understood about them.

Before they knew it, they were then assigned to help the Awoken with the rogue House of Wolves and their Kell, Skolas.  Together, they and other Guardians brought an immediate end to this rebellion.  Even then, the Awoken still had a hard time trusting the Emirans.

With these threats out of the way, a sense of uneasy quiet had returned.  Between their assignments, Midnight and Laura would continue their personal mission to discover the truth.  Over the course of a few months, they would work with Warlock scholars to better understand the data the found on Venus.

This was until the Oryx crisis, but once again, the two were successful in helping lead the charge that ultimately led to the Hive god’s demise.  Their personal research had to wait as once again, they worked with Eris to decipher texts that they uncovered aboard the Dreadnought.  While the history of the Hive was fascinating to read, the two eventually returned to their mission.  The following year would be quiet, with little progress made.  The two began to frequent Venus in hopes of uncovering more secrets.

Following the emergence of SIVA, the two would spend a couple months investigating the Cosmodrome in hopes of learning more about it and its replicating power.  With the Fallen Splicers defeated for the time being, they were free to explore and learn more.  Both made a note to investigate it further down the line as a possible theory came to them.

As the City celebrated the Age of Triumph that the Guardians had achieved, Midnight and Laura would tend to stay away from the festivities.  Instead, they were recalling their steps, reflecting on the journeys they had taken.  Together and alone, they would enjoy the peace that had arrived.

The two were briefly separated during the attack by Ghaul’s Red Legion.  Midnight was in the Tower, assisting in the evacuation while Laura helped in streets below.  Having both lost their Light after the Traveler’s capture, they struggled to find each other.  Thankfully, they would embrace upon arriving at the Farm a couple weeks after the attack.  Not willing to give up the fight so easily, the two set off to put an end to the Legion.  With their Light eventually returning, the two helped the Vanguard lead the counterattack that would result in Ghaul’s death.

After accepting the invitation to board the Leviathan, the two were left with more questions than answers about the Cabal’s culture and their true intentions.  The two spent little time thinking on this.  Instead, they relayed their findings to Ikora, who would inform them of new discoveries as they come available.

With some semblance of peace finally returning to the land around the city, Midnight and Laura have resumed their search for their truth.  With the Cabal threat neutralized, they have set off for Venus to see if more can be found in the vast wealth of the Ishtar Collective.  Even with the dangers that still lurk on the planet, they bravely leave their “home” in their continued search for knowledge.
Some more random Destiny fan lore here.  I didn't really have anything in mind for this as I just wanted to try to write something to help get me out of my recent block.  I consider my main two characters in the games to be Midnight and Laura, so I figured it would be fun to go over how they came to be Guardians and their current legacies through in-game events.  It's nothing fancy, but I enjoyed working on this.

I'll probably continue to work with some more random ideas before I get back into my more regular content.
